Chesapeake Bay Critical Area

Building near the water? Land within 1,000 feet of tidal water falls under Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay Critical Area rules, which limit how much new patio, walkway, and other hard surface can go in. Much of Calvert’s shoreline is covered, so we design around those limits from day one and handle permitting with the county. No surprises once construction starts.

Do I need a permit for a deck or patio in Calvert County?

Most decks, and many porches, patios, and outdoor kitchens, need a permit from Calvert County, and waterfront lots may also need Critical Area review. We handle the paperwork as part of every project.

What towns in Calvert County do you serve?

Lawn Artists transformed my lawn with a 4 1/2 month project that addressed dire drainage issues on the property. They are professional, personable, knowledgeable and reasonably priced. At the end of the project they had replaced three retaining walls with ones that work and are beautiful as well. Also they built a paver walkway around the house to again, focus on the erosion issues. Pavers were used on our driveway and beautiful patio.
